Essential oils have been used in perfumery and therapeutic settings for hundreds of years. They contain the very concentrated essence of the plant’s aroma and its active ingredients. Synthetic aroma chemicals or as they are sometimes labeled, parfum, are generally synthesised from petrochemicals in a lab. Although some would argue that they smell the same and are “nature identical,” the human body may not recognise them in the same way, meaning manmade scents lack the medicinal qualities of the natural essential oils.

Please bear in mind that “parfum” listed on a non-organic product may be a combination of dozens of aroma chemicals that have never been tested for safety in that specific combination before.
